2016-17 Curriculum night power point (download)
We will be implementing 6 week units of study that integrate reading, writing, word study, research, social studies, science, and health. We will have several units of study across the year. During each unit, students will research different types of reading and writing, as well as a topic. Students will present out their individual and classroom research at the end of every unit as a culminating activity.
Students will be immersed in the study of earth science, life science, physical science and an engineering topic. Students will be reading many books about specific science topics and will also keep a science notebook to record hands-on science investigations.
We will begin the year with a community unit as we establish the habits of mind of a strong learning and research community. The social studies program will provide the opportunity for each student to develop critical thinking and processing skills which are necessary in a diverse and changing world.
Students will have a systematic word study program daily at school. The program has five hands-on experiences with words each day of the week.
Our math curriculum is "Bridges in Mathematics." With this curriculum, your child will be learning math through many hands on activities. Curriculum will be tailored to meet the needs of your child.
